Washington Bride & Groom Shoot - Photography Inspiration
It takes something spectacular for me to want to 'recycle' something I've seen on another blog, particularly one as well-read as 100 Layer Cake - however this shoot was so creative and fun I really wanted to share it with you.

Image source (above and below): Washingtonian magazine, 100 Layer Cake.
The Washingtonian Bride & Groom magazine recently ran this photoshoot/story which was their translation of the "Dos & Don'ts of saying 'I Do'", with VERY spectacular results. The shoot was art/creative directed by Design Army, and my favourite shots are those that work with unusual environments and really large scale, such as the "Do Handwrite Your Thankyou Notes" and the rose petals littered down the bowling alley "aisle", as well as the dreamy croquet setting... Really amazing work, well done Design Army!

There are some ideas to be gained from a shoot as creative as this. Humor, scale, and personality shine through in photos like this, and if you feel this is an avenue you wish to take with your own event photography, have a chat with your photographer ahead of the day about some artistic ideas for styling your shots. Arrange for some vintage furniture to be available to you (imagine a beautiful ornate chaise longue in a field or vineyard...), get creative with massive paper props, or arrange a "day after" shoot with you and a more relaxed partner - swap your dress shoes for something a little edgier and have fun.
EDIT: Found these two great articles about the shoot - Applied Arts Wire writes about Design Army's process of shooting the article, as does Capital Communicator. Both articles feature this behind-the-scenes video, worth a look:
Happy weekend all!
