Just Added to our Portfolio:
Kelly and Benjamin's Wedding Invitation Suite
I think my design process over the years has become this: starting with something simple, and then making it as ridiculously not as possible. Sure, it's all just paper and glue and folds and whatnot at the end of the day, but then again, there are so many ways you can do paper and glue and folds and whatnot, that is the fun of this job.

Kelly and Benjamin's invitation, from the first time I imagined how it would look, (on a routine drive from Melbourne to Bendigo) was going to be one step further into ridiculous and I was super excited. I had recently created Kelly's sister Rhiannon's engagement invitation, and loved the idea of tying them together in a subtle way, so the same lace pattern is used for both, albeit in very different colours and themes. From there, the idea snowballed as the kilometres ticked over, how about a vertical bellyband, how about making the folder look like a vintage clutch, how about adding a quilted pattern to make it look even more like a clutch, how about having three sections that folded out almost like rolling out a blanket, how about ribbon holding a reply card in place... how about a reply card AND an envelope, how about glassine envelopes, how about a colour way of three different wish cards, how about layering the heck out of the paper on the inside, how about watercolour and autumn leaves and swirls and... and... and...
A few weeks later, I was sitting cutting out these. A lot of them. Ridiculous, no matter how fun it is, also has to be functional to some extent because you have to build the things!A lot of trimming whilst watching hours of Fringe a lot of time and effort was required for this idea to work. But I am really pleased with how they turned out and I hope the couple feel the same way.

Two really great things happened during the assembly process: I sourced some perfectly sized glassine envelopes for the wish cards from a US supplier on Etsy (they were the exact right measurement, before I even knew what size to look for, that was just crazy good luck) and Australia Post released stamps that were a perfect match for the reply envelopes. I am sure this is all a good omen for the happy life these newlyweds have ahead of them. Congratulations Kelly and Ben!
